Ground source heat pumps
Ground source heat pumps (GSHP) tap into the endless source of warmth stored just below ground. At about two metres the earth maintains a constant temperature of around 10°C and it’s this energy that GSHPs harvest, amplify and transfer into homes and offices.
It’s a proven technology that uses the vapour-compression refrigeration process, essentially a fridge working in reverse.
- 70% lower C02 emissions
- 4X more efficient than traditional boilers
- 2 weeks installation time
Air source heat pumps
Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) harvest warmth from the air (even on the coldest of days) to provide heating and hot water all-year round. It’s the ultimate renewable, a highly effective technology that is three times more efficient than traditional boilers. In technical terms heat pumps utilise the vapour-compression refrigeration process – put simply they work in the opposite way to a fridge.
- Fit most homes
- 3X more efficient than traditional boilers
- Installed within 5 days

Reward schemes & grants for heat pumps
Since Barclays began offering their customers up to £2000 to make energy efficient improvements to their home in January 2023 as part of its Greener Home Reward scheme, now more banks are doing the same.
Halifax is now providing a “Greener Living Reward” and Lloyds an “Eco Home Reward” for homes installing ground source or air source heat pumps. Similar to the Barclays scheme, both Halifax and Lloyds are offering an incentive:
-
- £1,000 towards an air or ground source heat pump
- Plus £5,000 – £6,000 with a government grant, if you live in England or Wales
There are more banks and building societies starting to offer similar rewards. There are some restrictions to be aware of but we are here to help. Don’t forget, there is also 0% VAT on heat pumps! Get in touch with us to find out more about our heat pump installations in and around Cambridgeshire.
Is my property suitable for a heat pump?
Most properties are suitable for heat pump installations. While ground-source heat pumps require sufficient garden or land to accommodate the underground pipework, air-source heat pumps require less space and look much like an air-conditioning unit as they are installed on an outside wall of the home.
Infinite Heating & Energy are experts in advising on the suitability and funding options for air source heat pumps for all kinds of properties – homes and offices – and then designing, installing and commissioning the system. We can also service all heating systems for full peace of mind.
All our installations are designed, supplied and commissioned in accordance with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), ensuring that our domestic customers are eligible for the Renewable Heat Initiative. Read more about our Funding Options here.
